About the Role

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Remote Aviation Software Developer specializing in Flight Systems to join Our client's forward-thinking team. This is a fully remote position, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere within South Africa, with a strong emphasis on digital collaboration. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in developing and enhancing the sophisticated software that powers modern aviation. You will be working on complex algorithms and real-time systems, contributing directly to the safety and efficiency of flight operations. This remote-first opportunity is based out of Cape Town, Western Cape, but allows for seamless operation from any approved location.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance software for flight control systems, navigation, and avionics.
• Implement and optimize algorithms for real-time data processing and decision-making in flight environments.
• Collaborate with systems engineers and aviation experts to translate requirements into robust software solutions.
• Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code adhering to strict aviation software standards (e.g., DO-178C).
• Conduct thorough unit testing, integration testing, and system testing to ensure software reliability and safety.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to the continuous improvement of software development processes.
• Troubleshoot and debug software issues, providing timely and effective solutions.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in aviation software and embedded systems technology.
• Contribute to the development of software architecture and design documentation.
• Engage in agile development methodologies, participating in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional software development experience, with a significant focus on embedded systems or real-time applications.
• Proven experience developing software for the aviation or aerospace industry.
• Strong proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, or Ada.
• Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and embedded software development environments.
• Understanding of aerospace communication protocols and data formats.
• Familiarity with software development lifecycles and agile methodologies.
• Experience with software version control systems (e.g., Git) and build systems.
• Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly in a remote setting.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote work environment.
